Tripoli, March 08, 2025 (LANA) The United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) renewed its support for promoting the rights of Libyan women and endorsing their effective and safe participation at all levels of society and raising their demands for protection and participation.

This came in a statement issued by the Special Representative of the Secretary-General of the United Nations, "Hanna Tetteh", on the occasion of International Women's Day, according to what was published on the mission's website.

"Hanna Tetteh" said that women in Libya, especially those involved in the public and political spheres, face major challenges, as systematic obstacles, discrimination and violence continue to stand between them and their full and meaningful participation.

The United Nations Support Mission in Libya called, through the statement, on all concerned Libyan parties to take decisive action to advance the status of women and girls, ensure their rights and give them equal opportunities to contribute to all areas of the economy and make a positive difference.

It also urged the support and empowerment of women by enhancing their comprehensive access to leadership and decision-making positions, while calling for prioritizing the provision of opportunities for women, especially young women and girls, to enable them to contribute effectively to achieving peace and development in Libya.
