Rome, February 28, 2025 (LANA) - Minister of Interior of the Government of National Unity "Imad Trabelsi" discussed with his Italian counterpart "Matteo Piantedosi" in the capital Rome, yesterday, Thursday, an assessment of the status of the migration issue, according to the Italian "Aki" agency.
The agency quoted the Italian Ministry of Interior as saying, "The meeting discussed exchanging views on joint strategies to combat irregular migration," noting that "the two ministers agreed that the effective solution to prevent irregular migrant flows lies in supported voluntary return operations for migrants."
According to the "Aki" agency, the ministry recalled that the aforementioned operations "will be implemented in cooperation with major international partners, including the International Organization for Migration and the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees," in order to return migrants from Libya to their countries of origin."
It is noteworthy that on February 9, Trabelsi called on Italy to "provide support for voluntary repatriation operations for migrants to their countries of origin," and "support Libyan security services and enhance their capabilities in combating irregular migration."
