Tripoli, February 27, 2025 (LANA) - The First Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Fawzi Al-Nuwairi, called for urgent parliamentary elections, considering them the only solution to restore legitimacy, unify state institutions, and end the institutional division that the country is experiencing.

In a statement by Al-Nuwairi, entitled "A Call to Save the Nation" published yesterday, Wednesday, in light of the institutional division and foreign interventions that deepen the crisis, there is no alternative to urgent parliamentary elections to restore legitimacy, unify state institutions, consolidate independent national decision-making, and block the path to continued foreign interventions..

Al-Nuwairi considered that "the municipal council elections confirmed the desire of Libyans to freely choose their representatives, and proved the ability of national institutions to organize fair elections despite the challenges." But he warned that "this path faces obstacles from parties benefiting from the current situation, seeking to disrupt the elections in order to preserve their interests, even if the price is the continued suffering of the Libyans."

In contrast, Al-Nuwairi criticized the performance of the UN mission in Libya, considering that it "has become a tool to prolong the crisis by reproducing the same bodies and strengthening division," which requires a national move away from any external guardianship, according to his expression.

Al-Nuwairi held all officials responsible for their national and historical responsibilities, calling on the High National Elections Commission to immediately begin the necessary procedures to ensure that the elections are held without procrastination.

At the end of the statement, Al-Nuwairi called on "the Libyan people to adhere to their right to choose their representatives, and to reject any attempts to obstruct the elections or impose a political reality that does not express their will," stressing that "Libya is above all, and the national will is the solution."
