Cairo, 24 February 2025 (Lana): A meeting between the House of Representatives (HoR) and the High Council of State (HCS) was held in Cairo to discuss various issues and ways to advance the Libyan political process towards a comprehensive solution that would end the division state in the country’s institutions and reach presidential and parliamentary elections, according to the Speaker of the HoR, Abdullah Belihaq.
Belihaq stated that during the consultative meeting held yesterday, at the invitation of the Egyptian HoR and the Senate , which included 96 members of the HoR and 73 members of the HCS, an agreement was reached that stipulates the emphasis on the exclusive Libyan ownership of the political process through official institutions and the necessity of continuing communication between the two councils through joint meetings, activating the outcomes of the tripartite meeting held in Cairo under the auspices of the League of Arab States on March 10, 2024, and restructuring the executive authority.
The agreement also stressed the importance of the UNSMIL’s role, which must remain within its framework specified by the decision to establish it, which is to support Libyan institutions in accordance with the political agreement and to support the right of the Palestinian people to establish their independent state and rejection of the unjust aggression against them and support for the Egyptian and Arab position rejecting their displacement, and calling on the Arab League to take a firm position in this regard.
Belihaq highlighted that it was also agreed to hold the next meeting of the two councils in one of the Libyan cities to take the necessary measures to achieve what was agreed upon.
