New UN envoy arrives in Tripoli, pledges to work to find a solution to the Libyan crisis led and owned by Libyans

Tripoli, February 20, 2025 (LANA) - The United Nations Support Mission in Libya announced the arrival of the new envoy, "Hanna Serwaa Tetteh", today, Thursday, to Tripoli to officially assume her duties as Special Representative of the Secretary-General and Head of the Mission in Libya.
"Tetteh" said in a statement, "I arrived in Libya today to officially assume my duties as Special Representative of the Secretary-General in Libya and Head of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya, and that in accordance with Security Council Resolution No. 2755 of 2024, I will lead the mediation efforts of the United Nations, building on the work done by my predecessors and colleagues in the mission, and I will continue to find the way towards a solution led and owned by the Libyans.
She added that this will not be achieved without working effectively with all Libyans - from all political spectrums, civil society, elders, women, youth, local communities and cultural components - the diversity that characterizes this vibrant nation, and that, in cooperation with my colleagues in the mission, we will seek to know their views, ideas and understand their concerns to amplify their voices and enhance their hopes for the future.
The new envoy pointed out in her statement that she recognizes that a lasting solution must be a solution led and owned by Libyans, and that she will work with regional and international actors to gain their support in order to mobilize our collective efforts to enable Libyan actors to preserve national unity, the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Libya.
She explained that under her leadership, the mission will continue to work tirelessly to support Libyan institutions and enable them to hold inclusive national elections and formulate a collective national vision to address the challenges that Libya has faced for a long time, noting that this will not be easy, but working together makes it possible, and I will spare no effort in striving to achieve peace and stability for Libya and the Libyan people.
The Special Representative of the Secretary-General and Head of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya, Hanna Serwaa Tetteh, concluded by emphasizing that the United Nations will remain firmly committed to supporting Libya to become prosperous, stable and democratic – a Libya that serves all its people and provides them with opportunities; a Libya that confidently assumes its place as an active player on the world stage, pledging to work with Libyans and the international community to achieve this goal.
