The Egyptian Minister of Industry reveals the details and stages of implementing the land road linking (Egypt - Chad - Libya)

Cairo, February 18, 2025 (LANA) - Deputy Prime Minister for Industrial Development - Minister of Industry and Transport of Egypt, Lieutenant General Engineer "Kamel El-Wazir", announced that his country attaches utmost importance to the land road project linking (Egypt - Chad - Libya) as it represents a fundamental axis in enhancing economic integration between Egypt and Chad.

This came during his participation in the discussion session on the "Egypt - Chad - Libya" road on the sidelines of the activities of the International Forum for Infrastructure Development held in the Chadian capital, N'Djamena, in the presence of "Amir Idriss Kodra", Minister of Infrastructure and Road Maintenance in Chad, and Deputy Minister of Finance in Chad.

The Egyptian Minister expressed his happiness to participate in this forum and in this dialogue session that addresses one of the most important projects that Egypt attaches great importance to linking with African countries, which is the "land link" road project between the two countries (Egypt-Libya-Chad), which will represent a vital artery for development and inter-trade, and a fundamental axis in enhancing economic integration between Egypt and Chad.

The Minister stressed in his speech, which was published by the Egyptian Ministry of Industry and Transport on its website, the determination to overcome all obstacles to implement this ambitious project as soon as possible, in Egypt's belief that it will bring about a qualitative shift in the movement of trade and will contribute to creating new job opportunities, improving the standard of living of citizens in the three countries and will be a strategic point of contact for neighboring countries.

"Kamel Al-Wazir" explained that the project is divided into three sectors - the first sector inside Egyptian territory with a length of (400) km - the second sector inside Libyan territory with a length of (390) km - and the third sector from the Chadian border to Ibsha, passing through the city of Umm Al-Jarras with a length of (930) km.

The Egyptian Minister pointed out that the first sector is currently being implemented inside Egyptian territory from East El-Oweinat to the Kufra port by Egyptian companies, and as for the second sector, a memorandum of understanding has been signed between the Arab Contractors Company and the Libyan government to begin surveying and environmental studies and preliminary design work for the road linking the Kufra region in southeastern Libya on the border with the Egyptian state and extending inside Libyan territory to the Chadian border.

According to the Minister, the Arab Contractors Company has signed a memorandum of understanding with the Chadian government to begin surveying and environmental studies and preliminary design work for the third sector in the distance from the Libyan-Chadian border to the city of Umm Al-Jaras, and contracts have also been signed to implement the road in the distance from the city of Umm Al-Jaras to the city of Ibsha between the Chadian government and the Arab Contractors Company, and all studies related to the project are being prepared.
