New York, February 17, 2025 (LANA) - Today, Monday, organizations affiliated with the United Nations appealed to collect $6 billion in aid to help civilians affected by the ongoing conflict between the army and the "Rapid Support" forces in Sudan.

A joint statement, issued by the relevant United Nations organizations said that "Sudan is experiencing one of its most devastating crises at the present time."

The UN statement stressed that the ongoing conflict in Sudan for nearly two years has fueled a catastrophic protection crisis and displaced 12 million people.

The statement indicated that "civilians continue to be killed and injured in the conflict, in addition to the destruction of hospitals, markets and other basic infrastructure."

The joint statement pointed out that about two-thirds of the population needs urgent assistance, and that the country is facing famine conditions.

It stated that the United Nations and its partners aim to help about 26 million people in the country and the region within the framework of the "Humanitarian and Refugee Response Plan 2025" launched for Sudan.
