El-Sonni stresses the importance of the UNSMIL’s role in supporting a Libyan-led and owned process.

New York, 12 February 2025 (Lana)—Permanent Representative of Libya to the UN, Taher El-Sonni, stressed the importance of the UNSMIL’s role in supporting a Libyan-led and owned process for the political solutions and supporting national initiatives that would contribute to ending all previous fragile transitional periods.

During his meeting yesterday with the new UN Envoy, Hanna Tetteh, El-Sonni called to accelerate the holding of general elections to achieve the desired stability.

The two parties discussed the latest developments in Libya and the challenges facing the political process, in addition to recent developments in the region and their impact on Libya and neighboring countries.

For her part, Tetteh stressed her desire to work from Libya in the coming days and her attempt to meet and communicate with all Libyan parties to achieve stability and end its longstanding crisis.
