UN Mission announces names of Advisory Committee, reveals date of first meeting
Pulbished on:Tripoli, February 4, 2025 (LANA) - The United Nations Support Mission in Libya announced, on Tuesday, the formation of the Advisory Committee within the framework of its multi-track political initiative that it presented to the Security Council in its session on December 16, 2024, stressing that the Advisory Committee will hold its first meeting next week in Tripoli.
The mission said in a statement that the Advisory Committee consists of Libyan figures who were appointed based on the mission's assessment of their experiences and capabilities, so that the committee will submit proposals, technically appropriate and politically applicable, to resolve the outstanding controversial issues in order to enable the holding of elections, based on existing Libyan references and laws, including the Libyan Political Agreement, the Libyan Political Dialogue Forum Roadmap, and the 6+6 electoral laws.
The mission confirmed that the members of the committee were selected based on a set of criteria that include: professionalism; experience in legal, constitutional and electoral issues; and the ability to achieve consensus; with an understanding of the political challenges facing Libya. The United Nations Mission also took into account cultural factors, geographical balance and women's representation, according to the statement of the United Nations Mission.
The Advisory Committee includes 20 figures: Ibrahim Osman Adam Ali, Ibrahim Musa Saeed Qaraada, Abu Al-Qasim Ramadan Abu Al-Qasim Brebish, Amina Khair Allah Muhammad Al-Hasia, Jazia Jibril Muhammad Shaitir, Zahra Ali Al-Mazoughi Tibar, Abdul Fattah Khalifa Al-Suwaie Al-Saieh, Abeer Ibrahim Al-Sanousi Aminina, Issam Youssef Miftah Al-Mawwi, Ali Saeed Ali Al-Barghathi, Ali Mahmoud Hamad Khair Allah,
Omar Ibrahim Omar Ahsin, Kamal Muhammad Hudhayfah Al-Huni, Al-Koni Ali Rahoma Abboud, Lamis Abdul Majeed bin Abu Bakr bin Saad, Muhammad Hassan Bashir Obaid, Maryam Abu Bakr Khalil Amghar Muhammad Edeh, Nouri Khalifa Omar Al-Abbar, Nouri Abdullah Al-Mahdi Abdul-Ati, and Wafiya Ahmed Abdul Majeed Saif Al-Nasr
She pointed out that the Advisory Committee is not a decision-making body or a forum for dialogue, but rather works under a specific time frame and is expected to complete its tasks within a short period. The Advisory Committee will submit its outputs to the mission to build on in the next stage of the political process. The mission will facilitate communication and interaction between the Committee and the relevant institutions.
