Pulbished on:Tripoli, February 4, 2025 (LANA) - The National Committee for Combating Desert Locusts demanded, on Monday, the necessity of disbursing an emergency budget to combat the locust spread in the Tahala area and the Ghat valleys in southern Libya.
This came during a meeting held by the head of the committee, Salah Musa Mubarak, with the directors of departments and officials of the committee to coordinate between the relevant departments and develop appropriate plans and programs to confront this pest.
The attendees stressed the necessity of providing all necessary equipment, including special vehicles, spraying machines, pesticides for combating desert locusts in desert areas, and other equipment to confront this pest in the next stage.
The National Committee for Combating Desert Locusts warned of the repercussions of the spread of the locust pest, especially since the pest is in the stage of the adult insect capable of mating and laying eggs.
The media spokesman for the National Committee for Combating Desert Locusts, Engineer Hussein Al-Buraiki, confirmed in a statement to the Libyan News Agency the appearance of desert locusts in the Ghat region, specifically in Wadi Tanazoft, Tahala, Al-Uwaynat and near Ghat Airport.
