Campaign to combat desert locusts in southern Libya.

Pulbished on:

Ghat 04 February 2025 (LANA) - A comprehensive survey campaign targeting (420) hectares in the areas of Wadi Azjar and Tahala in southern Libya resulted in achieving a success rate of 85 percent in combating desert locusts, after increasing fears of the impact of locusts on agricultural production in the south, especially in the areas of Wadi Azjar and Tahala, which are considered important agricultural areas.

According to sources in the committee, this campaign came after the circulation of local reports indicating the spread of swarms of desert locusts in these areas, which prompted the concerned authorities to intervene quickly.

Abdul Hakim Al-Shaibani, an official in the Technical Affairs Department of the National Committee for Combating Desert Locusts, explained in press statements that the campaign was implemented in cooperation with the exploration team of the Agricultural Police Office in Ghat, and in coordination with the National Committee for Combating Desert Locusts, with a focus on sensitive agricultural areas and areas believed to have been severely damaged by locust swarms.

Al-Shaibani pointed out that the campaign achieved positive results thanks to the cooperation between the various parties in implementing survey and control operations. He also explained that the campaign included the use of modern technologies to ensure full coverage of the affected areas, in addition to the use of approved pesticides to prevent the spread of locusts in other areas.
