Foreign Ministry of the HoR and the UK Embassy in Libya discuss the latest developments in Libya.
Pulbished on:Benghazi, 4 February 2025 (Lana) Chairman of the Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Committee of the House of Representatives (HoR), Youssef Al-Aqouri, met with the UK Ambassador to Libya, Martin Longden, at the headquarters of the Council's office in Benghazi yesterday.
The spokesman for the HoR, Abdullah Blihaq, said in a press statement today that the meeting discussed a number of issues of common interest and the latest political developments, in addition to supporting dialogue to reach the elections.
According to Blihaq, Al-Aqouri stressed the importance of relations between the two countries and the Kingdom's role in supporting Libya's independence and building its institutions, stating that there is a close link between the security and stability of Libya and Europe, reiterating the position of the HoR that all foreign forces and mercenaries must leave Libyan territory, pointing out that the international community abandoned the Libyan people after 2011 in confronting armed groups and terrorist groups.
Regarding the migration file, member of the Foreign Affairs Committee, Al-Hadhiri, stressed the need for joint coordination to confront the unprecedented migration flows that have become a major challenge for everyone, explaining that Libya received the brothers from Sudan and treated them equally with Libyan citizens, but Libya cannot solve this crisis on behalf of the countries of the region.
Regarding the mission's work, he stressed that the mission's role is to support the Libyans and not to interfere in internal affairs.
In turn, the Deputy Rapporteur of the HoR, member of the Foreign Affairs Committee, confirmed to the international cooperation, Sabah Juma, that the political dialogue be in accordance with the political agreement between the HoR and the State, expressing her observations on the work of the mission in the past years and the necessity for the mission to side with the will of the Libyan people represented by the HoR, stressing the importance of clarifying the point of view of the HoR.
She stressed that the HoR carried out its duties and issued the laws of parliamentary and presidential elections and the referendum on the constitution.
For his part, the ambassador stressed that the Kingdom will continue its support for Libya, especially in the area of capacity building, and stressed the Kingdom's commitment to support the mission, expressing his concern about the situation in Libya and what is related to foreign interventions, expressing his happiness to visit Benghazi and Derna and his desire to continue coordination and cooperation and provide humanitarian assistance to the crisis of the influx of Sudanese in Libya.
