The Public Prosecution orders the detention of two members of a criminal gang.
Pulbished on:Tripoli, January 29, 2025 (LANA) - The Public Prosecution issued a ruling today, Wednesday, detaining two defendants involved in a gang formation whose members deliberately coordinated illegal immigration operations and pursued the rest of the organization's members.
The Public Prosecutor's Office stated that officers of the Al-Wahat Criminal Investigation Department branch conducted investigations into the incident of depriving the freedom of two hundred and sixty-three illegal immigrants to force their families to pay seventeen thousand dollars in exchange for the release of each immigrant who belongs to the Republic of Somalia by nationality and to pay ten thousand dollars in exchange for the release of each immigrant who belongs to the Republic of Eritrea by nationality. The investigation procedures resulted in determining the location of the detention of the victims' freedom, then the follow-up led to the arrest of two defendants red-handed in the crime that is the subject of the prosecution.
The office added that the investigation led to proving the involvement of the accused in forming a gang, committing human trafficking incidents, and setting up premises for the purpose of depriving the freedom of the victims who were subjected to torture, cruel, degrading and inhumane treatment in order to force their families to pay a ransom.
