Al-Nuwairi stresses the necessity of addressing foreign countries’ interference in Libyan affairs

Benghazi, January 27, 2025 (LANA) - The First Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Fawzi Al-Nuwairi, welcomed the appointment of the new Special Envoy of the United Nations to Libya, Ghanaian Hannah Serwaa Tetteh, wishing her success in carrying out her duties to serve the interests of the Libyan people and achieve stability and peace in the country.

Al-Nuwairi stressed that the Libyan people have long suffered from external interference and conflicts that have contributed to complicating the political and security situation in Libya, which requires the UN mission to intensify its efforts to address the roots of the problem.

The First Deputy called for the formation of an international committee under the auspices of the United Nations, including the countries interfering in Libyan affairs, with the aim of putting an end to negative interference and ensuring international and regional consensus that contributes to the stability of Libya.

Al-Nuwairi called for redirecting the role of the UN mission to focus on addressing differences between regional and international countries instead of focusing only on internal details that reflect these interferences.

Al-Nuwairi said that the mission's continued disregard for these priorities will lead us to the same vicious circle that Libya has experienced in the past years, noting that Libya is a sovereign state and its people are capable of overcoming internal differences if foreign interference stops. Al-Nuwairi also called on the international community to assume its responsibilities and work seriously to end the state of international and regional polarization that hinders the restoration of stability and development in Libya, stressing that the country's stability will only be achieved through international consensus that respects the will of the Libyan people.
