During his meeting with Al-Aqouri: Orlando expresses the concerns of the European Union countries about the situation in Libya and what is related to foreign interventions
Pulbished on:Benghazi, January 26, 2025 (LANA) - The Head of the European Union Mission to Libya, Ambassador "Nicola Orlando", expressed the concern of the European Union member states about the situation in Libya and what is related to foreign interventions.
This came during his meeting with the head of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the House of Representatives, "Youssef Al-Aqouri", yesterday, Saturday, to discuss the latest political and economic developments in the country and joint cooperation programs, in addition to discussing the technical support program provided to the House of Representatives, and the European Union programs in Libya for the next three years.
According to the spokesman for the House of Representatives, "Al-Aqouri" stressed during the meeting the importance of the European Union's role in supporting Libya's stability, noting that there is a close link between the security and stability of Libya and Europe.
The head of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the House of Representatives thanked the European Union Mission for the support provided by the Union to Libya on various issues, especially after Hurricane Daniel, expressing the need to evaluate the impact of these programs and consult on priorities to make them successful.
Regarding the support programs provided by the European Union, Al-Aqouri called for more coordination on these programs in order to achieve maximum benefit from them, expressing his observations on the European Union programs in Libya for the next three years and the Union's program to support borders, stressing its importance and that it should include all regions of Libya.
Regarding the migration file, Al-Aqouri stressed the need for joint coordination between Libya and the European Union to confront the unprecedented migration flows that have become a major challenge for everyone, noting that Libya received the brothers from Sudan and treated them equally with Libyan citizens, stressing that Libya cannot solve the migration crisis on behalf of the countries of the region.
The head of the Foreign Affairs Committee explained during the meeting that the House of Representatives carried out its duties and issued the laws of parliamentary and presidential elections and the referendum on the constitution, renewing the Council's position that all foreign forces and mercenaries must leave Libyan territory as a condition for the country's stability, stressing that the international community bears full responsibility towards the Libyan people after its intervention in 2011 and then its abandonment of Libya, as well as its failure to respect the House of Representatives' decisions to withdraw confidence from the expired government.
For his part, "Orlando" stressed that the European Union will continue its support for Libya, especially in the field of capacity building, and the European Union's keenness to support the United Nations mission, expressing the concern of the European Union member states about the situation in Libya and what is related to foreign interventions.
"Blihaq" pointed out that the two sides agreed at the conclusion of the meeting held at the House of Representatives in Benghazi to continue coordination and dialogue on various issues to enhance joint work in a way that brings stability and prosperity to the Libyan people.
