A training course in Benghazi to enhance the skills of monitoring violations and human rights
Pulbished on:Benghazi, January 25, 2025 (LANA) - The second edition of the intensive training course organized by the National Council for Public Liberties and Human Rights - Eastern Region Administration, in cooperation with the European Union, was launched in Benghazi this Saturday morning to train more than (70) employees of the Council on monitoring violations and following up on complaints.
This program, which came within the framework of the "Support for Libya" project, comes within the context of the efforts made to enhance the capabilities of the Council's employees in dealing with human rights issues in accordance with international standards, as the course covers three main workshops. The first focuses on mechanisms for visiting prisons and places of deprivation of liberty, while the second deals with following up and documenting complaints, while the third is concerned with developing the skills of writing and preparing human rights reports.
The Vice President of the National Council for Public Liberties and Human Rights, Naima Al-Aribi, explained to Libyan News that this course comes within the Council's efforts to enhance human rights awareness and consolidate the principles of justice, noting that each training workshop accommodates 25 employees, as participants undergo an intensive program that extends for five hours daily for three consecutive days, under the supervision of specialized trainers from the European Union.
The training includes several basic axes that aim to enhance the legal knowledge of trainees, including introducing the international human rights system, which deals with international mechanisms and instruments, in addition to shedding light on the functions of the National Council according to Law No. 5 of 2011.
Participants also learn the methodology of receiving, following up and documenting complaints, in addition to learning about the legal framework for visiting places of deprivation of liberty, and the basic principles that must be adhered to during these visits. The program also includes training on the methodology of preparing human rights reports to ensure accurate and professional documentation of the cases monitored.
This course comes within the framework of the "Support" project, which is one of the programs supported by the European Union in Libya, with the aim of enhancing the capacities of national institutions in the field of human rights, and developing protection and monitoring mechanisms to ensure the rights of individuals in accordance with international standards. .
