The Public Prosecution ordered the detention of a former director at the Civil Status Authority.

Tripoli, January 25, 2025 (LANA) - The Public Prosecution ordered the detention of a former director of the Documentation Department at the Civil Status Authority, and the head of the Inspection and Review Office at the Authority before 2020 on charges of forging 200 foreign family records.

The Public Prosecutor's Office said that the first results of the interrogation revealed that the defendants, along with others, conspired to include two hundred family records in favor of persons who do not belong to the State of Libya by their nationality and to forge residence data and to issue documents that enabled a group of individuals - illegally - to use forged national numbers; and thus they obtained rights arising from citizenship.

The Public Prosecution Office added that the investigator proved that the defendants had abused their powers by deliberately forcing five female employees to record data that violates the Nationality and Civil Registry System. Accordingly, the Public Prosecution ordered the defendants to be detained pending investigation, and proceeded with comprehensive review procedures to verify the grounds for entitlement to what is due to citizenship.
