Al-Darrat to Anadou Agency: Libya is about to sign a memorandum of understanding with Turkey.

Tripoli - January 24, 2025 (LANA) - Advisor to the Prime Minister of the Government of National Unity for Electricity and Renewable Energy Affairs "Osama Al-Darrat" told the Turkish "Anadolu News Agency" today, Friday, that Libya is about to communicate with Turkey to conclude a memorandum of understanding for cooperation in the fields of renewable energy.

"Al-Darrat" added to the Turkish agency that "Turkish companies are pioneers in the fields of energy, especially in the manufacture of solar panels and wind turbines."

He continued: "We communicated with a number of Turkish companies and held meetings and concluded memoranda of understanding with them to transfer expertise to Libya in the fields of renewable energy and wind energy."

He explained that "Turkey is cooperating with Libya in gas and fossil fuel-powered electricity turbines," noting that an area has been allocated for investment in renewable energy east of the capital, Tripoli, where Turkish companies will play a major role in implementing these investment projects. He added that Turkish companies are a key partner in power stations, such as the West Tripoli station and the Misurata station, in addition to a new contract for the South Tripoli station, and they also work with us in the fields of maintenance.

Regarding the possibility of electrical connection between Libya and Turkey, Al-Darrat told Anadolu Agency, "This matter will be discussed with the Turkish side to discuss ways of connection or not."

The agency indicated that the Government of National Unity announced on August 21, 2023, the launch of a project to build a gas-fired power station in the capital, Tripoli, implemented by the Turkish company "Shalik" in cooperation with the German company "Siemens".

Since May 2021, another Turkish company, "Anka Technik", has been implementing an emergency power station project in West Tripoli with the German company "Siemens", with a production capacity of 670 megawatts.

Anka Technik is also implementing the Ubari gas-fired power station project in southern Libya with a total capacity of 640 megawatts.
