LAIP restores and resumes rice farming project in Mozambique.

Maputo, January 21, 2025 (Lana) - The delegation of the Libya Africa Investment Portfolio (LAIP) achieved a set of positive results at the end of its official visit to Mozambique, which came as a result of a series of intensive meetings with the relevant authorities.

The chairman of the portfolio's Board of Directors affirmed reaching an agreement with the Mozambican Investment and Export Promotion Agency regarding the allocation of an alternative area of ​​land, which constitutes a pivotal and decisive step towards resuming the rice cultivation project.

The delegation held several intensive meetings and field visits, where the delegation met, accompanied by the Libyan Ambassador to Mozambique, the Governor of the "Qaza" province, which was identified as an alternative site for implementing the project, due to its fertile soil and abundance of water resources necessary for agriculture.

The inspection results showed that the current equipment's serviceability is estimated at about 80%, with a recommendation to carry out some maintenance and partial replacement operations to ensure the restoration of the factory's full operational capacity according to the highest standards of efficiency.

It also held an important meeting with the director of the Investment and Export Promotion Agency, during which the necessary organizational and logistical arrangements for the resumption of the project were agreed upon.

The Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Portfolio, accompanied by the Libyan Ambassador, met with the Director of the Africa and Middle East Department at the Mozambican Ministry of Foreign Affairs, where the Mozambican official stressed the strategic importance of the project and expressed the Ministry's full support and commitment to providing the necessary facilities to ensure its success.
