Benghazi, 20 January 2025 (Lana) Acting Head of the UNSMIL, Stephanie Koury, met yesterday with 14 activists and representatives from various civil society organizations across the east and south at the UN headquarters in Benghazi.

During the meeting, Koury shared the UNSMIL's assessment of the political, security, and economic landscape that prompted the mission to revive the political process.

“I assured the participants of UNSMIL’s commitment to an inclusive approach, ensuring that all Libyan voices are heard, and urged them to actively engage in the ongoing discussions aimed at shaping the nation's future,” Koury said in a tweet.

“The young women and men shared informed assessments of the factors perpetuating the status quo and proposed options for moving forward, including ways to address the drivers of conflict. They emphasized the importance of establishing a national mechanism to oversee the implementation of the political process outcomes,” she added.
