The Presidential Council stresses the necessity of adhering to the Libyan Political Agreement as a legitimate basis for regulating the work of political institutions and their competencies
Pulbished on:Tripoli, January 9, 2025 (LANA) - The Presidential Council stressed the need to adhere to the Libyan Political Agreement as a legitimate basis for organizing the work of political institutions and coordinating their competencies to avoid conflicts and imposing a fait accompli, especially at this critical stage that requires prioritizing the national interest and working to achieve comprehensive reconciliation that ends the suffering of Libyans.
The Council said in a statement issued yesterday, Wednesday, that it played its role in this file with pure Libyan transparency and professionalism, and the draft national reconciliation law received international praise before it was referred to the House of Representatives more than a year ago, after it was prepared according to professional standards and national references to guarantee the rights of all parties and enhance the chances of reconciliation.
He added that he had hoped to deal with the project in a spirit of national responsibility away from politicization, but what the last session of the House of Representatives witnessed contradicted these aspirations and increased the complexity of the path, stressing the importance of avoiding unilateral decisions that undermine the national partnership and negatively affect the security and stability of the country.
The Council affirmed in its statement that it will continue, in accordance with its legal powers, to protect this national project and ensure its correct path, praising the efforts of the national bodies and public figures who contributed to it and the positive role of the African Union and the United Nations Mission, and we call on them to play their role impartially. We also look forward to everyone continuing to support the project to reach comprehensive reconciliation. The Presidential Council indicated that the success of the national reconciliation project requires the cooperation of all parties to establish justice and civil peace, away from steps that may obstruct the path and dispel the hopes of Libyans for a stable and unified future.
