Former Libyan Foreign Bank official and his deputy imprisoned for causing damage to public funds

Tripoli, January 8, 2025 (LANA) - The Tripoli Criminal Court has sentenced a former official in charge of the documentary credits department and his deputy at the Libyan Foreign Bank to five years in prison and fined them 150,000 dinars for causing damage to public funds.

The Attorney General's Office said on Wednesday that the Public Prosecution had addressed the reality of the defendants' deviation from the requirements of preserving the interest entrusted to them by evading the rules governing banking work when dealing with the bank's pledge to pay an amount of (5 million and 767) thousand euros for the benefit of the Administrative Centers Development Authority, which caused serious damage to public funds as a result of abandoning the responsibility of extending the validity of the letter of guarantee.

The office indicated that the Public Prosecution had filed a lawsuit against them before the Criminal Court, which ruled in its last session to sentence them to five years in prison, fine each of them 50,000 dinars, and oblige them jointly to pay 150,000 dinars.
