Notables and Sheikhs calls for Presidential Council to achieve national reconciliation.
Pulbished on:Tripoli, January 1, 2025 (LANA) - The Forum of Notables and Sheikhs, which was held in Tripoli today, Wednesday, called on the United Nations Mission in Libya, the UN Security Council and the African Union to stand with the Presidential Council and support it in order to achieve the desired national reconciliation.
This came in a closing statement of the forum, which was held this morning under the auspices of the Presidential Council and attended by the Council's representative, Abdullah Al-Lafi, and the participation of a large number of notables, sheikhs, elders and civil society institutions, and the head and members of the Libyan General Union of Organizations and Associations of Martyrs' Families.
The forum called on the Presidential Council to activate the role of the National Reconciliation Commission, support it and name its members.
The forum's statement said, "The file of national reconciliation, supervision of elections, and the position of the Supreme Commander of the Libyan Army are within the jurisdiction of the Presidential Council, as agreed upon at the Geneva Conference in 2021, and that national reconciliation is a political reconciliation to reach an agreement on a unified leadership and administration of the state." The forum stressed not to bypass Transitional Justice Law No. 29 of 2013 issued by the General National Congress and its implementation to achieve social peace.
