Al-Aqouri and Berndt discuss the latest international developments in the region.

Benghazi, 1 January 2025 (Lana): Head of the Foreign Committee in the House of Representatives (HoR), Yousef Al-Aqouri, met virtually with Chargé d'Affaires Jeremy Berndt.

The spokesman for the HoR, Abdullah Belihaq, said in a press statement yesterday that during the meeting views were exchanged on a number of priority issues, including observations on the work of the UNSMIL and the latest international developments in the region, especially in Syria and Sudan, and their impact on Libya.

“Al-Aqouri stressed the importance of working on the economic files due to their great impact on the lives of Libyan citizens, highlighting the readiness of the HoR to discuss the necessary legislation in this framework, noting the importance of benefiting from relevant international expertise,” Belihaq said.

Al-Aqouri also stressed the position of the HoR rejecting any foreign presence on Libyan territory and the need to continue working to consolidate the ceasefire and prevent any security breaches in order for peace to prevail in the country.

Regarding the constitutional path, Al-Aqouri pointed out the importance of having a permanent constitution to support the path of peace and stability in Libya.

Regarding Libyan-American relations, Al-Aqouri expressed his commitment to strengthening cooperation with the new American administration, offering his congratulations to the American people on the success of the American elections.

In turn, Berndt stressed his country's commitment to supporting peace and stability in Libya, stressing the embassy's commitment to strengthening Libyan-American relations in all areas in coordination with Libyan partners from all over Libya, according to Belihaq.

At the end of the meeting, the two sides agreed to continue coordination and joint work to bring more stability and prosperity to the Libyan people.
