Peace and Sustainable Development Conference kicks off in Benghazi with 41 countries participating
Pulbished on:Benghazi, December 26, 2024 (LANA) - The activities of the first international conference for peace and sustainable development began today, Thursday, in the city of Benghazi, with the participation of 41 countries.
The opening of the conference was attended by the Chairman of the Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Committee in the House of Representatives, Youssef Al-Aqouri, and representatives of the Ministry of Social Affairs and the Ministry of Interior in the Libyan government assigned by the representatives, in addition to the heads and members of the participating delegations from inside and outside Libya.
Al-Aqouri stressed in his opening speech that this major scientific forum sheds light on the prospects for development and stability, and introduces the attendees to the reconstruction process that began in the region subject to the Libyan government.
Al-Aqouri praised the efforts of the Libyan House of Representatives in accelerating the pace of reconstruction, by establishing the "Libya Reconstruction Fund" to avoid the negative effects of the government division, describing the step as "a unique case in which the legislative authority played a major role in stimulating development."
Al-Aqouri said that the reconstruction process is still long, and includes focusing on stimulating economic growth, supporting the youth sector, fighting poverty, and benefiting from the experiences of neighboring and developed countries. Pointing out that Libya's stability holds promising opportunities for the countries of the region.
Al-Aqouri continued in his speech: "Our message to the world is that Libya's stability will contribute to enhancing stability and peace, and open up great horizons for cooperation and development."
For their part, the participating delegations stressed in their speeches the importance of establishing an international center bearing the name of the conference, with its headquarters in the city of Benghazi, with branch offices in the member states, to enhance cooperation and partnership between the participating countries.
The conference advisor, Dr. Jassim Al-Mutairi, announced that the second edition of the conference will be held in the city of Jeddah in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, as part of efforts to achieve the vision of comprehensive sustainable development.
The preparatory committee for the conference honored the head of the Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Committee of the Libyan House of Representatives, expressing its gratitude for supporting the success of Benghazi's hosting of the conference in its first edition.
