The UN mission sends a congratulatory statement on the anniversary of independence
Pulbished on:Tripoli, December 24, 2024 (LANA) - The United Nations Support Mission in Libya congratulated the Libyan people on the (73) anniversary of Libya's independence, considering it an occasion to recall the great sacrifices made by Libya to achieve its freedom and sovereignty, and to celebrate the determination and resolve shown by its citizens.
The mission said in a congratulatory statement that it is unfortunate that this anniversary has become, for three years, an occasion to recall the failure to hold elections and postpone the aspirations of Libyans to express their free will, choose their leaders and renew the legitimacy of their institutions, noting that it is of utmost importance for Libyan leaders today to draw inspiration from the legacy of the founders, and to come together on a common word to preserve Libya's sovereignty and territorial integrity, and to work to achieve a sustainable future for all citizens. It is their responsibility to protect the Libyan nation for which their ancestors sacrificed their lives and their precious possessions.
At the end of its statement, the mission affirmed its commitment to supporting the Libyans in their quest to achieve a future of peace and prosperity, calling on all concerned parties to participate constructively in its plan to revive the political process, and to show cooperation and consensus to overcome the current impasse and build a Libya that guarantees peace, justice and equal opportunities for all.
