Benghazi, 22 December 2024 (Lana) UNSMIL organized in Benghazi a workshop about hate speech and its role in conflicts around the world.
The mission said in a tweet that the two-day workshop, as part of UNSMIL’s You Engage programme, was attended by twenty-eight young men and women from different parts of the eastern and southern regions.
“The participants worked on building their communication skills by working in teams to develop targeted campaigns to prevent hate speech in communities across the country,” UNSMIL said.
“Hate speech enlarges the problems Libya has,” said one participant when presenting their team’s campaign on bringing people together for national reconciliation.
Others highlighted that people use hate speech “to let out their frustrations at the situation in Libya and to blame others for it.”
