Tripoli, December 16, 2024 (LANA) - The European Union welcomed the proposal of the Acting Head of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya, Stephanie Khoury, during the briefing she gave today to the Security Council on Libya.

The European Union Mission in Libya affirmed in a statement its full support for the proposal, considering the launch of a new UN initiative to revive the political process in Libya a positive development that came at the right time.

The statement called on all concerned Libyan and international parties to engage in a purposeful, responsible and constructive manner with the United Nations and its representative in Libya, stressing that collective commitment to the new mediation mechanism is essential to ensure its success.

The European Union renewed its firm support for the pivotal role of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya and its work to reach a political solution based on a comprehensive dialogue between Libyans aimed at renewing the legitimacy of Libyan institutions through holding national elections, according to the statement.
