NOC declares force majeure due to the ongoing clashes around the Zawiya refinery.

Pulbished on:

Tripoli, 15 December 2024 (Lana) National Oil Corporation (NOC) declared today a force majeure and a third-degree emergency (maximum) after a number of tanks at the Zawiya refinery were severely damaged during this early morning, which led to fires as a result of being hit by gunfire as a result of the clashes between armed groups using light and medium weapons.

In a statement issued today, NOC affirmed that security and safety personnel have controlled the fires and leaks in the gas lines and limited the risk of their spread despite the ongoing clashes in the vicinity of the refinery.

The Board of Directors of the NOC called on the relevant institutions and parties to assume their responsibilities and move as quickly as possible to stop the clashes and spare the oil sites from the ongoing conflict, whatever its causes.

The Board of Directors called on the Government of National Unity to intervene to resolve the clashes and eliminate sedition in any form, due to the flammable materials contained in these tanks.

The Board of Directors announced that it is in a permanent session with all departments and centers affiliated with it concerned with following up on developments in the region and taking the necessary decisions and measures regarding them.
