Pulbished on:Tripoli, December 11, 2024 (LANA) - Stephanie Khoury, Acting Head of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya, stressed the need to enhance the participation of Libyan women in the elections.
This came during a speech she delivered today, Wednesday, at the second regional conference on legal reforms supporting women's participation in elections, which was organized by the High National Elections Commission in cooperation with the United Nations Mission.
Khoury explained that Libyan women still face major challenges that hinder their effective participation in the political, economic and decision-making fields.
The UN envoy described the conference as evidence of the collective commitment to empowering women and supporting their participation in the electoral process.
She added that women's involvement is an essential part of any political process supervised by the United Nations in Libya, stressing the importance of continuing efforts to ensure their effective role in the Libyan political scene.
