Dabaiba stresses that water security is the basis for sustainable development.
Pulbished on:Tripoli, December 9, 2024 (LANA) - The Prime Minister of the Government of National Unity, Abdul Hamid Dabaiba, stressed today, Monday, that water security represents the basis for sustainable development and ensuring the stability of citizens' lives.
This came in a speech he delivered during the launch of the National Water Security Strategy, during an event organized by the Ministry of Planning.
Dabaiba pointed out that the challenges facing water resources in Libya require immediate and comprehensive treatment, including reducing the excessive use of groundwater, combating pollution, and ensuring the equitable distribution of water resources.
The Prime Minister pointed out the importance of integration between water security and food security, stressing that economic security depends on preserving water resources and managing them sustainably.
According to the Prime Minister's media office, Dabaiba called on the concerned authorities to start implementing the strategy immediately to achieve the desired goals by 2030.
The National Water Security Strategy includes basic axes, including improving access to water sources, preserving their quality, reducing water loss, and enhancing awareness of the importance of managing water resources sustainably.
The event was attended by representatives of international organizations and national bodies, in addition to the Ministers of Planning, Water Resources, Housing and Construction, the Head of the Executive Team for Presidential Initiatives and Strategic Projects, a number of ambassadors, the Resident Representative of the Secretary-General of the United Nations for Humanitarian Affairs, and representatives of international organizations.
