UN mission hosts consultative session on enhancing women's political participation.
Pulbished on:Tripoli, December 5, 2024 (LANA) - The United Nations Support Mission in Libya hosted a consultative session in Tripoli that included 28 women members of the House of Representatives and the High Council of State and civil society organizations from the western and southern regions.
The mission explained in a statement published on its Facebook page that this session comes before the launch of a comprehensive Libyan political process.
The mission added that the session focused on identifying the main priorities that should be addressed at the current stage in Libya and ways to ensure effective representation and meaningful political participation for women.
The Acting Head of the Mission, Stephanie Khoury, stressed in a recorded message the commitment of the mission and all United Nations agencies and programs to support the key role of Libyan women in the political process.
Khoury said that the mission's mandate includes working with Libyan institutions and authorities to ensure women's full, equal, effective, meaningful and safe participation at all levels, including in leadership positions, and in all decisions related to comprehensive political processes, democratic transition, reconciliation efforts, conflict resolution, and peacebuilding.
