Tripoli, 26 November 2024 (Lana) President of the Presidential Council, Mohamed Al-Menfi, held a meeting yesterday at the Council's headquarters in Tripoli with the Chief of General Staff, Lieutenant General Mohamed Al-Haddad, and the Border Demarcation Committee.

Al-Haddad provided a briefing regarding developments in the file of land and maritime borders between Libya and neighboring countries, pointing to the efforts made to document these borders and preserve national sovereignty, according to the media office of the President.

The office added that the committee emphasized that Libya's land borders with neighboring countries were defined based on historical official agreements, including the 1910 agreement between French and Ottoman colonial authorities, which serves as the primary legal framework for delineating borders between states. Additionally, border markers between Libya and Tunisia were reconstructed in 2020 to ensure clarity and documentation of the borders using the latest geographic technologies.

The committee stated that it is working continuously in coordination with joint border committees with neighboring countries to ensure the preservation of border stability, with a focus on enhancing security and economic coordination to combat smuggling and illegal migration, in addition to confronting any threats that may affect national sovereignty.

The committee stressed that the land and maritime borders between Libya and neighboring countries are fixed borders according to international law.
