Tripoli, November 21, 2024 (LANA) - The Minister of Local Government in the Government of National Unity, Badr Al-Din Al-Toumi, confirmed that the "Baladiyyati Project" is one of the important projects that have been worked on for a long time with international partners.
This came at the opening of the seventh meeting of the Steering Committee of the Baladiyyati Project, in the presence of its members represented by the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Planning "Mohammed Youssef", the European Union Ambassador to Libya "Nicola Orlando", the Italian Ambassador to Libya "Gianluca Alberini", the Deputy Regional Representative of the AICS Organization "Anna Maria Melgrana", the Resident Representative of the United Nations Development Program "UNDP" "Sofia Kimkhedres", the Resident Representative of UNICEF "Mohammed Fayyad", in addition to the Secretary-General of the Supreme Council for Local Administration "Nasr Al-Mahtout".
According to the ministry, Al-Toumi said that the project had a positive impact in terms of enhancing the opportunities for recovery, stability and economic and social development in the municipalities partnering with the project.
The Minister expressed his thanks to the European Union as the main funder of this project, as well as the Italian Embassy and the Italian Agency as a supporting implementation tool for the project in its first and second phases, expressing his happiness with this meeting that brings together the funding agencies, the beneficiary and the implementation tools.
The Minister of Local Government pointed out that this project coincides with the availability of the will of the Government of National Unity and its conviction in the effectiveness of local administration and directing its unprecedented support to the Ministry of Local Government's move to implement its plan to move towards decentralization and empower municipalities with their powers.
During his speech, the Minister touched on the importance of community participation and its role in involving residents and residents in local decision-making and expressing their opinions on various local files and issues, which contributes to improving the quality of services provided to citizens and achieving social cohesion.
For his part, the European Union Ambassador to Libya stressed that this meeting is a great opportunity to follow up on the progress of this project, identify the challenges it faces and work to overcome them in order to ensure the achievement of its goals.
He explained that there are 21 municipalities that have been worked on in this project, and that the Libyan partners played a very important role in the success of the Baladiyati project, as they adopted a comprehensive approach to improve energy, education, water and sanitation services.
In turn, the Italian Ambassador to Libya stressed during his speech that what has been achieved is an excellent starting point, and that his presence at this meeting is to support joint efforts to empower local communities in Libya and raise the level of service provision through the Baladiyati program.
The Italian Ambassador pointed out that the Baladiyati project is an important tool to support Libya's stability and focus on the local and municipal levels, and that the program will raise the level of development and progress throughout Libya, stressing the need to continue at the same level of service provision.
