Khan before the Security Council: We have collected more than (1300) pieces of evidence about crimes in Libya
Pulbished on:Tripoli, November 19, 2024 (LANA) - The Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court, Karim Khan, revealed that the court has collected more than 1,300 pieces of evidence about crimes in Libya, conducted more than 14 interviews, and examined more than 29 witnesses.
"Khan" said in his briefing to the Security Council that we have collected reliable information about crimes against demonstrators in 2011, and issued 4 public arrest warrants regarding these crimes, and there is one public arrest warrant pending regarding the crimes of 2011, which is the arrest warrant for Saif al-Islam Gaddafi.
"Khan" indicated in his briefing, which he presented from Tripoli, that the Security Council report included an arrest warrant for individuals who committed a series of human rights violations against the victims, and we have monitored all of them.
He said, "The court has issued arrest warrants against (6) individuals belonging to the "Kani" group involved in crimes of murder and torture in Tarhuna, and we have identified the locations of a number of individuals against whom an arrest warrant has been issued and we demand that they be brought to justice with the participation of the concerned parties. We have agreed with the Libyan Attorney General to take new steps to open the way for trials and prosecution of the crime in Libya. We are in constant contact with eastern Libya and we will visit there soon next time. He explained that his team continues to work on collecting evidence about the crimes committed during the period between (2014-2020), including extrajudicial killings, kidnapping, desecration of corpses, sexual violence, airstrikes, use of mines, and enforced disappearance.
He pointed out that he expects more arrest warrants to be issued against those involved in the crimes committed until 2020, and there must be trials in The Hague and Libya, and the door must be opened for Libyan lawyers to work with my office in The Hague, and I confirm what the Attorney General announced regarding joint coordination in the field of judicial investigations And integration.
