Tripoli, November 10, 2024 (LANA) - Acting Minister of Interior, Major General "Imad Al-Trabelsi" discussed today, Sunday, with the European Union Ambassador to Libya, "Nicola Orlando", efforts to combat illegal immigration and its repercussions on Libya, neighboring countries and the Mediterranean region.

The two sides also discussed during the meeting held between them at the Ministry's headquarters in Tripoli ways to enhance security cooperation between Libya and the European Union, and coordination in joint programs to support stability in the country.

According to what was published by the Ministry of Interior on its official page on the "Facebook" website, the meeting also focused on ways to confront organized crime and terrorism, and a number of common security issues and files.

For his part, "Orlando" described, through his account on the "X" website, the meeting with the Acting Minister of Interior, Major General "Imad Al-Trabelsi" as fruitful, stressing the European Union's commitment to continuing the solid partnership with Libya regarding respect for universal human rights and humanitarian principles, as well as Libyan sovereignty and culture.

"Orlando" indicated that the meeting reviewed the progress achieved since the convening of the Trans-Mediterranean Migration Forum last July.

"We have seen a staggering 87% year-on-year increase in voluntary returns of migrants as a result of EU-supported reforms and strong cooperation between the two sides," the EU Ambassador to Libya said, noting that he had also agreed with Trabelsi to continue strengthening land border management.
