The Security Council extends the mandate of the UN mission in Libya for another three months.
Pulbished on:New York, October 31, 2024 (LANA) - The UN Security Council today, Thursday, extended the mandate of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya for another three months until January 31, 2025.
The Council unanimously adopted the draft extension resolution, stating that the mission would be automatically extended for an additional 9 months until October 31, 2025, provided that a new UN envoy to Libya is appointed.
The resolution affirmed the legitimacy of the Libyan political agreement, the roadmap emanating from the Geneva Forum, and the updated electoral laws of the 6+6 Committee formed by the House of Representatives and the High Council of State.
The Security Council called for imposing sanctions against those threatening peace in Libya, calling on the UN mission to facilitate a dialogue between the Libyan actors to prevent the escalation of the conflict.
