GNU discusses imposing taxes on expatriate workers in Libya.

Tripoli 30 October 2024 (Lana) Head of Tax Authority discussed with Minister of Labor and Rehabilitation strengthening legal and legislative frameworks that guarantee state revenues and the non-loss of its rights from expatriate workers in Libya with the aim of maximizing tax revenues and regulating the labor market in line with the economic and political goals of the state.

During the meeting, which was held at the headquarters of the General Administration in Tripoli, the details of the Authority's vision were reviewed, which stipulates the need of imposing taxes on foreign workers within the framework of sovereignty theory, which is considered an aspect of the state's sovereignty over its territory and its citizens.

The meeting also discussed joint cooperation to commit to implementing the provisions of Law No. 16 of 2023 AD, regarding the minimum wages and salaries, in a way that guarantees the rights of workers and supports the national economy.

The head of the Authority stated the importance of cooperation between the Ministry and the Authority to ensure the implementation of the strategy of the two parties in a way that contributes to enhancing revenues and supporting the public treasury, adding that imposing taxes on expatriate workers comes within the framework of strengthening control and regulation of the labor market in accordance with the laws in force in the Libyan state.

For his part, the Minister confirmed that the Ministry will work to provide all data to the Authority in terms of providing a database on expatriate workers in coordination with the Department of Employment to ensure the workflow and achieve the desired goals.
