Khoury stresses the role of the 5+5 Committee in maintaining peace and stability in Libya.
Pulbished on:Sirte, October 18, 2024 (LANA) - The Acting Head of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya, Stephanie Khoury, stressed "the importance of Libya's sovereignty and territorial integrity and the crucial role played by the 5+5 Joint Military Commission in maintaining peace and stability in Libya, and enhancing the environment conducive to reviving a political process leading to elections.
This came in a speech she delivered during her participation in the city of Sirte, in chairing the meeting of the Security Working Group with the French Ambassador, Mustafa Mehraj, along with members of the 5+5 Joint Military Commission and other co-chairs.
Khoury said in a post on her account on X, which the UN mission published on its Facebook page, that she stressed in her speech "the urgent need to end the political impasse with the aim of unifying state institutions, primarily the military and security institutions, and enabling the Joint Military Commission to fully implement all provisions of the ceasefire agreement."
Khoury reiterated in her post the commitment of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya, along with its partners in the Security Working Group, to support the Joint Military Commission in carrying out its decisive tasks.
The Deputy Special Representative expressed her gratitude for the warm welcome received by the 5+5 Joint Military Commission, local dignitaries, civil society and military leaders in Sirte.
