“Soon we will establish free zones with Tunisia and Libya to limit speculation in goods,” President Tebboune says.

Algiers 7 October 2024 (Lana) Algerian President Abdul-Majeed Tebboune affirmed that soon his country will establish a free trade zone with Niger, then with Tunisia and Libya, to set a solution to combat speculation in goods, noting the success of this free zone with neighboring Mauritania.

In the weekly meeting he organizes with local media, he stressed that Algeria is not currently thinking of joining blocs because the country's priority is to build a strong economy that keeps it away from international fluctuations and is working hard to achieve self-sufficiency and produce wheat, barley, and other essential food crops, and then move towards building a true democracy.

Tebboune revealed that Algeria intends to buy shares in the BRICS Development Bank worth one and a half billion US dollars.

After he had previously expressed Algeria's desire to join the BRICS Bank, which aims to get rid of the dollar's dominance over international trade transactions, Tebboune confirmed during the meeting that he is not thinking of joining this economic bloc due to the positions of some member states.

He said, "We wanted to join this bloc, but some members obstructed Algeria's accession, and they were certain that they would not affect it, and those who opposed Algeria's entry benefited it, and our friends will remain our friends."
