Ministry of Interior to launch a campaign to deport illegal migrants to their countries.

Tripoli, 3 October 2024 (Lana): The GNU Ministry of Interior intended to launch a security campaign as a part of its plan to deport illegal migrants to their countries.

The ministry said on its Facebook page yesterday that the campaign will be launched during the next few days from Tripoli, to expand later to include all cities and regions.

“This step reflects the ministry's determination on implementing the law and controlling the security situation with a focus on confronting the challenges related to migration.” It said.

It is noteworthy that the Minister of Interior, Imad Al-Tarbelsi, spoke during a conference last July about the presence of two to 2.5 million foreigners in Libya, 70 to 80% of whom entered the country without visas during previous wars that caused the collapse of the security services.

“At that time, the borders became empty and available to everyone without procedures... and they entered and benefited from electricity and subsidized fuel,” he added, stressing the failure of successive governments to put an end to this phenomenon due to political divisions and the weakness of the security services.
