Pulbished on:

Tripoli, 4 September 2024 (Lana), Head of the Libyan Civil Aviation Authority discussed with the British Ambassador to Libya, Martin Longden, the prospects of resuming direct flights between the two countries, especially to cities with significant Libyan communities.

According to the authority’s website, the ambassador pledged to liaise with the relevant authorities in the UK to facilitate this effort.

Longden also commended the advanced technical standards and significant improvements in Libyan civil aviation, particularly in flight safety oversight, which aligns with international rules and standards.

The meeting also addressed the overall performance rates in implementing plans to meet international requirements for lifting the European ban on Libyan aircraft.

The Assistant Head of the Authority provided a detailed presentation on the progress of the comprehensive digital transformation project aimed at addressing deficiencies in civil aviation, which has reportedly achieved about 90% completion.

The meeting also discussed the negative impacts of announcements by some countries regarding the low security levels in Libya and the continued classification of Libya as a conflict zone, which hinders efforts to resume flights within Libyan airspace.
