UN appoints a Georgian expert to lead development program in Libya.
Pulbished on:New York, August 25, 2024 (LANA) - The United Nations announced the appointment of Georgian "Sophie Kimkhadze" as the new Resident Representative of the United Nations Development Program in Libya.
According to the United Nations, "Kimkhadze" will lead the efforts of the United Nations in Libya to promote stability and comprehensive development, by focusing on a range of vital issues, including supporting the building of strong democratic institutions, enhancing the ability of society to withstand conflicts and climate change, and driving sustainable economic growth.
Kimkhadze expressed her enthusiasm for assuming this position, stressing the importance of working with Libyan and international partners to achieve the sustainable development goals in Libya.
It is worth noting that Kimkhadze has extensive experience working with the United Nations, more than 25 years in leadership and technical advisory roles, including 17 years with the United Nations Development Program.
She began her career in Georgia and has worked in several countries around the world, including Armenia, Nepal, Indonesia and Somalia. She holds a PhD in Mathematics from the Georgian Academy of Sciences and a Master's degree in Economics and Politics from the University of Warwick in the United Kingdom.
UN representatives believe that the appointment of Dr. Sophie Kimkhadze represents an important step in the UN's efforts to support Libya on its path towards stability and development. She is expected to play a crucial role in enhancing international cooperation and providing the necessary technical and financial support to achieve sustainable development in Libya.
