Discussing Libyan-American cooperation in the field of renewable energy.
Pulbished on:Tripoli, August 21, 2024 (LANA) - The Minister of Planning in charge of the Government of National Unity, Mohammed Al-Zaidani, stressed the importance of cooperation between Libya and the United States in the fields of renewable energy.
This came in a meeting yesterday, Tuesday, in Tripoli, with an American delegation headed by the Chargé d'Affairs of the US Embassy in Libya, Jeremy Berndt, in the presence of the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Renewable Energy Authority, and the Board of Directors of the Renewable Energy Holding Company.
The American delegation included a number of budget experts from Washington, and representatives of the Office of Management and Budget at the White House, the US State Department, and the US Agency for International Development.
The Ministry of Planning explained, in a statement on its official page, that the meeting focused on discussing opportunities for participation in the fields of technical studies and advisory services in renewable energy, and discussing the challenges and opportunities available to achieve progress in the field of reconstruction in the targeted areas (Derna, Murzuq, Sirte and southern Tripoli).
The Minister stressed the importance of building bridges of cooperation between Libya and the United States, noting that the meeting discussed ways to implement the National Strategy for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency prepared by the Ministry of Planning in partnership with the United States Agency for International Development and relevant national authorities, and launched by the Prime Minister of the Government of National Unity at the end of 2023 as a national strategy that brought together all visions and trends in the field of renewable energy and energy efficiency.
Al-Zaidani explained that the strategy is a national requirement due to the importance of renewable energy in diversifying energy supply sources.
The Ministry of Planning quoted Jeremy Berndt and the accompanying delegation as stressing the importance of the role of the Ministry of Planning in developing the National Strategy for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency, and its role in enhancing governance and transparency systems when distributing development allocations.
