Al-Baour discusses the immigration file and Libyan efforts to address this issue with the German Minister of State for Immigration Affairs.
Pulbished on:Tripoli, August 19, 2024 (LANA) - The Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Taher Al-Baour, discussed today, Monday, in Tripoli, with the Minister of State for Migration Affairs at the German Interior Ministry, Bernd Kroeser, and the accompanying delegation, the issue of illegal immigration and the Libyan efforts made to address this issue.
The meeting was attended, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, by Abdul Rahman Khamada, Director of the European Affairs Department, Jamal Al-Barq, Libya's Ambassador to Germany, and Ralph Joseph Taraf, Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany to Libya.
Al-Baour stressed during the meeting the keenness and readiness of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation to push bilateral relations to broader horizons in various fields.
Al-Baour praised the important role played by Germany in supporting the efforts made to find a just settlement to the political crisis in Libya through the Berlin 1 and 2 conferences, welcoming any diplomatic efforts made in this regard by the German government, according to the ministry.
The meeting focused on discussing the illegal immigration file and the Libyan efforts made by the concerned Libyan security agencies to address this file, where Al-Baour pointed out the importance of the Trans-Mediterranean Migration Forum organized by Libya last July, explaining that Libya is a transit country and cannot address the immigration file and its negative phenomena alone.
For his part, Bernd Kroeser expressed his hope for the return of security and stability to Libya, expressing his country's readiness to cooperate with Libya at the bilateral level and at the level of the European Union Commission in order to provide the necessary support to address the illegal immigration file, referring to the difficult security situation suffered by some countries in the region, which resulted in an increase in the number of immigrants flowing into Europe.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the two sides agreed to form a joint committee that includes representatives from the sectors concerned with the illegal immigration file and other security fields in both countries.
