Tahala, August 16, 2024  (LANA) - Mayor of Thala Municipality "Ahmed Kleikili" confirmed that the situation is catastrophic in most of the municipality's neighborhoods after the floods swept away the entire area and flooded all residential neighborhoods.

The mayor explained in radio statements that the water flooded both the 50th neighborhood in downtown, the 80th neighborhood, the Chinese neighborhood, the municipal council, and all service facilities, including the city hospital.

"Ahmed Kleikili" indicated that the material losses are large, whether in private or public property, but they cannot be limited at the present time because the water flooded the entire area, noting that all families and residents have been displaced outside the city, and they are in dire need of tents and blankets to shelter them.

Regarding the human losses, the news is still conflicting, especially with the interruption of communications and electricity regarding the death of three children, between those who confirm and those who deny.

Local sources from the city of Obari reported to the Libyan News Agency that, many families from Tahala arrived in the city after water and floods flooded their homes and properties.

The Ambulance and Emergency Department had stated earlier on Thursday night that the heavy rains in the city of Ghat coincided with the movement of floods coming from the Algerian mountains towards the city.
