Mauritanian President receives Al-Koni in Nouakchott.

Nouakchott, August 15, 2024 (LANA) - The President of the Islamic Republic of Mauritania - Chairman of the African Union, Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazwani, received at the Presidential Palace in the capital, Nouakchott, today, Thursday, the Deputy of the Presidential Council, Moussa Al-Koni.

The media office of the Presidential Council said, that "Al-Koni" congratulated the Mauritanian President on the occasion of his re-election as President of the country, and stressed the importance of Mauritania assuming the rotating presidency of the African Union in establishing peace and reconciliation in Libya and the entire continent.

In turn, the Mauritanian President welcomed Al-Koni and the accompanying delegation, stressing the depth of fraternal relations between the two countries, and the necessity of supporting Libya and standing with the Libyan people until achieving complete stability and building a strong state with its usual effective role on the continent.

According to the media office, the meeting discussed bilateral relations between the two countries in various fields and ways to develop and strengthen them to serve the common interests of the two countries, and ways for the African Union to support everything that achieves peace and stability in Libya and facilitates access to elections. The office indicated that "Al-Koni" extended an invitation to the Mauritanian President to visit Libya for discussions and consultations within the framework of activating the work of the Arab Maghreb Union, where President "Al-Ghazwani" welcomed the invitation, looking forward to visiting Libya and working with the active parties to achieve everything that meets the aspirations of the Libyan people
