“Grateful to FM Ammar for a good meeting. The U.S. appreciates our partnership with Tunisia in support of bridging gaps to help Libyans urgently restore momentum to the UN-facilitated political process in Libya,” Norland said in a tweet.
According to the Tunisian Foreign Ministry’s Facebook page, during the meeting they reviewed the political process in Libya, and the Minister recalled the position of the President of the Republic, stating that the political solution for Libya must be Libyan-Libyan in a framework of consensus and Libyan leadership under the auspices of the United Nations, reiterating Tunisia's support for all efforts aimed at reaching a comprehensive and lasting settlement that would guarantee Libya's security, stability, unity, and sovereignty over its national wealth and assets.
For his part, Norland commended Tunisia's positive and constructive role in bridging the gap between the Libyan interlocutors. He reiterated the United States’ refusal to impose solutions by force from any party and expressed his country’s willingness to coordinate with Tunisia in order to advance a political settlement based on dialogue and negotiation.
