The Supreme Council of State calls for raising the state of alert regarding military movements in the southwestern region.
Pulbished on:Tripoli, August 08, 2024 (LANA) - The Supreme Council of State called on the Presidential Council in its capacity as the Supreme Commander of the Army, the Head of the Government of National Unity in his capacity as the Minister of Defense, and the Chief of the General Staff of the Libyan Army to raise the state of alert and prepare to confront any potential danger resulting from illegal military movements in the southwestern region, according to a statement issued by the Council today, Thursday.
The Council said in its statement; (We have followed with great concern the recent military movements in the southwestern region by Haftar's forces during the past two days, in a blatant and clear attempt to increase influence and control over important strategic areas with neighboring countries).
The Council expressed its strong rejection of these movements, which it said were taking place outside the official and legitimate frameworks represented by the Supreme Commander of the Libyan Army and the relevant military authorities; considering that these moves may result in a return to armed conflict that threatens the ceasefire agreement and efforts to unify the military institution, and leads to the collapse of the political process.
According to the statement, the Supreme Council of State called on the United Nations Mission in Libya and the international community to take a clear position towards these unjustified and illegitimate moves, and to condemn them clearly and explicitly for what they pose as a direct threat to the ceasefire agreement and efforts to unify the military institution and resume the political process.
