National Oil Corporation declares force majeure on Sharara oil field
Pulbished on:Tripoli, August 7, 2024 (LANA) - The National Oil Corporation announced, today, Wednesday, a state of force majeure on the Sharara oil field, after production in the field stopped for four consecutive days.
The corporation stated in a statement that the state of force majeure came due to the current circumstances of crude oil production in the Sharara oil field, which prevented the National Oil Corporation from carrying out crude oil loading operations.
The corporation indicated that these influential circumstances will affect the cessation of oil operations to produce crude oil in the oil field and the cessation of crude oil export operations at the port of Zawiya.
It confirmed that it will notify the public opinion of the return to normal once the circumstances that led to the use of force majeure have disappeared.
The National Oil Corporation announced on Tuesday the start of a partial reduction in production from the Sharara oil field.
The corporation attributed the reduction to the force majeure circumstances resulting from the sit-ins of the "Fezzan Movement" group.
The production capacity of the Sharara oil field is about 300,000 barrels per day.
The National Oil Corporation called on the concerned parties to take into account the national interest and support the corporation's efforts aimed at stabilizing and increasing production.
